SCHOOL  WALK  FOR  DIABETES,  AL AIN 2007

School Walk for Diabetes, Al Ain, United Arab Emirates

15th, Saturday December 2007

Diabetes currently affects 246    million people globally,   including nearly 21 million children and adults in this region. For all of them and the many millions more at risk.

The School Walk started from First Lebanon School,   Falaz Haza'a area, Al Ain at 9.30 am.

The adults who helped with the supervision and the students who participated in  the school walk has raised the global    awareness campaign of the diabetes world. Special thanks to all schools and everyone who helped make   this  an  enjoyable activity!  We now need     individuals to appreciate  the risks    of      diabetes      and understand what can be done to control the disease and prevent or delay its life-threatening complications.

How      great it     was to see    all  the students participating in the School Walk for Diabetes on December 15th morning. The walk was a great success. The kids had fun at Al Wadi Park and at the same time gained a new awareness of diabetes and what it is like to live with this disease. The Special Support of   Ms. Niveen     El-Killani,  Mrs. Tayyaba Zahid,  Mrs. Umme Laila,   Mr. Abid        Nathaniel        was especially meaningful to  the      Al Ain     teachers     to     see the compassion and generosity of our community.

Consultant Physician & Diabetologist,     Dr.Isam Taha El Mugamer from Specialized University Medical       Centre      and other doctors from the Doctors Forum were present and  had talk with the students about diabetes, its causes and steps they can take to prevent the disease,explained about the prevention of diseases: after the school walk  at the Sudanese Social Club.

AIPCE,the Euro-Asian Event management Team    (AIPCE, the associate partner of UNESCO) has organised    the campaign,    the Event   Management         Company,  and many other organizations joined      the  first    campaign in     celebrations throughout Al Ain,  supported by Al Ain Diary, Al Ghadeer  &  a number of other Organisations.

For all of them and the many millions more at risk,    15th Saturday - December 2007  is a highly significant date as it marks the first Campaign   in association with Al Ain Doctors Forum with   the support of  Al Ain Schools and special thanks to First Lebanon School, Al Adhwa Private School, Al Manahil Private School, Al Ain Juniors School and the neigbouring Falaz Haza'a schools, Al Ain, United Arab Emirates.

World Diabetes Day is the primary global awareness campaign of the diabetes world and  November 14, 2007 is a highly significant date as it marks the first United Nations-observed World Diabetes Day.
