New Appointment:

Eng. Hilmi Kassab has joined M/s United Design International (UDI) as the Head of Contracts for the firm. United Design International has recently established a prominent presence in the UAE in the design industry. Its services include total conceptualization of internal outfitting work, as well as interior designs and execution, at its highest level. United Design International is based in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, with projects and services in the GCC markets and overseas. The company will expand its services into the commercial market and Eng. (Construction Business Magazine- Correspondent from Global Citynews) ---------- CONSTRUCTION & BUSINESS MAGAZINE: Design & Construct Magazine : Special Correspondent Al Naboodah-Laing wins the new package of Dubai Airport Expansion: Al Naboodah-Laing has been awarded the largest engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract. Dubai International Airport is having an expansion project which involves $4.1 billion (Dh15 billion) for the construction of Concourse 2 and Terminal 3.  This project is to be completed within 30 months and the tender, which includes engineering, procurement, construction, concrete and civil works, has been awarded to Al Naboodah-Laing after stiff competition between bidders, thorough study and evaluation  of all the bids.  The tender submitted by Al Naboodah-Laing suits the needs and priorities the most and matches the expectations of the Civil Aviation Authority. The value of the tender has not been disclosed  by the DCA.  Periodic meetings will be held for all bodies using the airport to determine their demands and needs and the work will be adjusted according to the future needs of the airport. Views of passengers, airlines and officials in relation to the future needs will be taken into consideration to make the terminals and facilities the best.  According to recent DCA studies, passenger traffic is to grow at a rate of between 12 to 15 per cent   in the future.  Passenger movement through Dubai is expected to reach 40 million by 2010, compared to the previously estimated 30 million, 70 million by 2016. Dubai Department of Civil Aviation (DCA) officials said five contractors bid for the project.  ------- Design & Construct Magazine : Special Correspondent A New wire rope plant in Dubai: Member of the Indian Usha Martin group, Brunton Shaw UK , will start trials in its new rope and sling manufacturing plant in Jebel Ali - Dubai during the last week of July. Initial production is expected to be 150 T/ month, growing to 500-600 T / month and as from early 2004, it will also produce non rotating ropes. Diameters will be from 12-40mm. Other ropes and slings from Usha Martin UK will be kept for distribution in Jebel Ali Warehouse.
