Counseling Arabia 2004, held last May, saw 350 delegates enjoying a highly successful and professionally stimulating day of speakers and workshops.
The delegates came from across the UAE and other Gulf countries representing the fields of education, higher colleges and universities, public and private sector human resources, private practitioners and others in the fields of career development and human services.
The theme for this year’s conference is Unity through Diversity and will address all areas of diversity including cultural, gender, special needs, age, race, ethnicity and spirituality.
In response to feedback from participants attending last year, this year’s conference is being expanded to 2 days,
Tuesday May 3 and Wednesday May 4, 2005 at Hotel Intercontinental Hotel, Al Ain. In addition, the one-day of pre-conference training will be expanded to three different days in three different venues around the country, to maximize the availability of training for professionals all across the Emirates.
The event will again be held under the esteemed patronage of HH Sheikh Nahayan Mubarak Al Nahayan, Minister of Education, Higher Education and Scientific Research and Chancellor of the Higher Colleges of Technology.

The conference is being organized by a committee of volunteers who come from all over the United Arab Emirates and from every sector of the field and is being led by staff at the Sharjah Women’s College, UAE University and Dubai Women’s College.
The change of venue is to try and ensure inclusion for all areas of the country. We are having guest speakers from the fields of personal counseling and career development for both the keynote addresses and workshops.
Once again, it is our intention to have a balance of world-renowned speakers from the Gulf region and abroad to talk about the specific issues and initiatives taking place here. To date we have received presentation proposals from presenters from all across the Gulf and other Arab countries, making this truly counseling ARABIA.
This highly successful conference has created a great deal of interest in the field of career development and other helping professions.
The steering committee has been very busy this year. In addition to running the Counseling Arabia conference, a vision statement, goals, bylaws and a code of ethics have all been created to set up a professional group.
The international outreach committee has made contact with practitioners and professional organizations in other Gulf countries and there is increasing interest in making this professional group trans-national.
