Oman Education Press Releases:

The American International School of Muscat (TAISM) pursues academic excellence for students in the international community through an American-based education that
develops ethical, responsible, and globally conscious life-long learners.

TAISM is a private, non-profit college preparatory, co-educational day school. The school is designed to afford expatriate children of all nationalities the best possible educational program within the context of an English language, American-based
curriculum. They believe that the purpose of education is to challenge all students to develop to their fullest intellectual, social, emotional, and physical potential. A student-centered, teacher-led program, in which individual needs are considered, can best develop the whole child. We recognize that as abilities and goals vary, so must the instructional program of the individual. We also acknowledge that education is

a partnership of students, parents, and dedicated staff. They value a diverse school community and an international student body.

Big overseas education contract with Oman signed:

A consortium of tertiary education organisations have signed a deal to provide course content to the Omani Ministry of Higher Education in one of the biggest international education contracts this country has signed.

A five year deal to provide course content to universities in Oman is a testimony to the quality of our tertiary education institutions, Tertiary Education Minister Michael Cullen said.

The New Zealand Tertiary Education Consortium (NZTEC) and the Omani Minister of Higher Education, Her Excellency Dr Rawya Saud Al Busaidi signed the contract at the Beehive
earlier today.

The consortium will be providing content for several business and IT degrees and English language courses.

While the value of the deal is confidential, it is understood to be the biggest ever for our international education sector.

"Education has become the cornerstone of the developing bilateral relationship between New Zealand and Oman," Dr Cullen said. "This is a great opportunity for both countries and further underlines our international reputation for excellence.

"Individual institutions have previously had off-shore contracts, but this is the
first time a New Zealand consortium has been formed. This project would have been too big for any one or our institutions.

"It is particularly exciting to see New Zealand education providers diversifying and recognising that by working together, they can access high value opportunities in international markets.

"A partnership approach, involving collaboration between education institutions, backed by government support of the kind New Zealand Trade and Enterprise has provided, is a winning formula for growing New Zealand's international education
sector."

NZTEC members include: Academic Colleges Group, Auckland University of Technology, The University of Waikato, Victoria University of Wellington, The University of Otago and
PINZ Limited.

Global Junior Challenge Award 2006 is open for entries:
After the great success of the Global Junior Challenge 2004 with 647 participating projects from 70 countries world-wide, the Global Junior Challenge Award is open for entries. The fourth edition of the Global Junior Challenge will be rich of surprises and news.

The first big surprise is the introduction of a special category of projects dedicated to the educational projects promoted by the cities of the world and local government.

The other two main topics of the Global Junior Challenge will be: the fight against the Digital Divide and the innovative use of new technologies in education and training of youngsters.

2002 Edition: The Global Junior Challenge 2002 was mainly dedicated to digital divide, especially among young generations. The gap between those who have access to the knowledge generated by new technologies and those who are excluded are rapidly
increasing. This dangerous unbalance is reinforcing not only between countries from North and South of the world, but also among the same countries creating new form of social exclusion. That year the Global Junior Challenge award paid special attention to projects and initiatives that tackle this problem and work to overcome the digital
divide.

The GLOBAL JUNIOR CHALLENGE is looking for projects in all fields of youth education. There is no geographical or size limitation for applicant projects. The CHALLENGE welcome every kind of project: from the web site created by children of a primary school to a global e-learning environment for online training.

The deadline for submission is the 31 December 2006.
