New research from LogicaCMG highlights
continued optimism over biometrics
Dubai Quality Group Investigates
Potential for New Technology across a
Range of Industries
Dubai, United Arab Emirates:
Dubai Quality Group (DQG), a non-profit
organization dedicated to raising the
general performance level of the local
business environment, has hosted a
special workshop on biometrics – the
innovative range of technologies that
use physical characteristics to ensure
accurate identification.
The region has witnessed a number of
major announcements regarding biometric
technology in recent months, with the
launch of the first biometric-enabled
ATMs in the UAE, as well as the news
that biometrics will be deployed as part
of the allocation of visas to travel to
the UK for GCC residents.
A number of other major industries –
including aviation, government and
energy facilities – are investigating
the potential of deploying biometric
electronic identity solutions, to
improve security and reduce the risk of
identity theft.
To respond to the increasing interest
from its members, DQG invited a
representative of LogicaCMG – one of the
pioneers in the field of biometric
technology – to outline how biometric
systems work and discuss the feasibility
of their application in different
sectors in the United Arab Emirates.
Liaquat Parkar, Lead Consultant,
LogicaCMG Middle East, addressed the
group. “The fact that this meeting drew
senior figures from across the business
community reflects the widespread
interest being generated by the
potential of biometric technology. Both
in the Middle East and Europe, we’re
talking with a wide range of
organisations who are engaged and
excited by the potential of biometrics
to enhance security and streamline
processes,” said Parkar.
During the session, LogicaCMG discussed
the results of its most recent
electronic identity research. The study
shows that the people surveyed continue
to feel positively about the
introduction of biometrics and
anticipate a wide range of major
benefits in the near future, including
better protection against identity
theft.
“Dubai Quality Group aims to provide an
environment for its members to meet and
exchange ideas, information, and
expertise. An area like biometrics has
major potential for many UAE industries.
This is a good example of a field where
we can provide – thought leadership,”
said Mr. Marwan A. Al Sawaleh, Chairman,
Dubai Quality Group.
Most people surveyed would be happy to
provide the biometric data to register
their identity documentation. 83% would
be happy providing fingerprints with 66%
happy to submit to a digital photo of
their eyes.
Tim Best, director, global identity
solutions, LogicaCMG, explains what this
means for the biometrics industry and
those organisations looking to deploy
the technology: “Firstly this continued
high level of acceptance is very
encouraging – we are rapidly approaching
a ‘tipping point’ where people’s
concerns over the technology are
outweighed by their optimism.”
“However a significant proportion of
people remain undecided and it now falls
to both the biometrics industry and
those organisations that want to deploy
the technology to reach out to these
groups and demonstrate the benefits
biometrics and electronic identity
technology can bring,” he added.

المقاييس الحيوية
مجموعة دبي للجودة تدرس إمكانيات التقنية
الجديدة ضمن عدد من القطاعات

الإمارات العربية المتحدة
استضافت
مجموعة دبي للجودة، وهي منظمة غير ربحية
تهدف إلى رفع مستوى الأداء العام لبيئة
الأعمال المحلية، ورشة عمل خاصة حول
المقاييس الحيوية، والتي تعتبر سلسلة من
التقنيات المبتكرة التي تعتمد على الخصائص
الفيزيائية للتعرف وبشكل دقيق على
الهوية.
وكانت
المنطقة قد شهدت عدداً من الأحداث الهامة
الخاصة بالمقاييس الحيوية في الأشهر
الأخيرة، ومنها إطلاق أجهزة الصراف الآلي
التي يمكنها التعرف على المقاييس الحيوية
في الإمارات العربية المتحدة، بالإضافة
إلى الإعلان عن اعتماد المقاييس الحيوية
كجزء من عملية منح تأشيرات السفر إلى
المملكة المتحدة للمقيمين في دول مجلس
التعاون الخليجي.
وتدرس العديد
من القطاعات الأخرى، في الوقت ذاته، بما
فيها الطيران والقطاعات الحكومية ومرافق
الطاقة، إمكانيات تطبيق حلول الهوية
الإلكترونية القائمة على المقاييس
الحيوية، وذلك لتعزيز الأمن وتقليل مخاطر
سرقة الهوية.
وتجاوباً مع
الاهتمام المتزايد من قبل أعضاء مجموعة
دبي للجودة، فقد قامت المجموعة بدعوة ممثل
عن لوجيكا سي أم جي، إحدى الشركات الرائدة
في مجال تقنيات المقاييس الحيوية، لشرح
كيفية عمل أنظمة المقاييس الحيوية ومناقشة
جدوى تطبيقها في مختلف القطاعات في
الإمارات العربية المتحدة.
وتحدث إلى
المجموعة لياكات باركر، أحد كبار
المستشارين لدى لوجيكا سي أم جي. وقال
باركر: " يعكس حضور كبار الشخصيات من كافة
قطاعات الأعمال إلى هذا الاجتماع الاهتمام
الواسع بإمكانيات تقنيات المقاييس
الحيوية. ونتعامل في كل من الشرق الأوسط و
أوروبا مع طيف واسع من المنظمات التي تبدي
اهتماماً بالإمكانيات التي تقدمها
المقاييس الحيوية لتعزيز الأمن وتبسيط
العمليات."
وخلال ورشة
العمل ناقشت لوجيكا سي أم جي نتائج آخر
أبحاثها المتعلقة بالهوية الإلكترونية.
وتبين الدراسات أن الأشخاص الذين استطلعت
آراؤهم في الدراسة يؤكدون على اهتمامهم
الكبير بالمقاييس الحيوية ويتوقعون أن
تقدم العديد من المزايا في المستقبل
القريب، بما فيها الحماية الأمثل ضد سرقة
الهوية.
ومن جانبه،
قال مروان الصوالح، رئيس مجلس إدارة
مجموعة دبي للجودة: "تهدف مجموعة دبي
للجودة إلى توفير بيئة لأعضائها تمكنهم من
الالتقاء ببعضهم البعض وتبادل الأفكار.
ويمكن أن تعود المقاييس الحيوية بالكثير
من الفوائد على القطاعات المختلفة في دولة
الإمارات العربية المتحدة، ولهذا فهي مثال
جيد على المجال الذي نستطيع من خلاله
تقديم مساهمة فكرية هامة وريادية".
وأعرب معظم
الأشخاص الذين شملتهم الدراسة عن
استعدادهم لتقديم بياناتهم الحيوية لتسجيل
وتوثيق هوياتهم. وأشار 83% منهم إلى
استعدادهم لتقديم بصماتهم فيما أبدى 66%
الاستعداد لتقديم صور رقمية للعين.
وفي هذا
الصدد، قال
تيم بيست، مدير قسم حلول الهوية العالمية
لدى
لوجيكا
سي إم جي، في إطار توضيحه لأهمية القبول
الذي تلقاه تقنية المقاييس الحيوية
وخصوصاً بالنسبة للمؤسسات التي ترغب في
تطبيقها: "يعتبر هذا المستوى الكبير من
القبول أمراً مشجعاً بالفعل، ونحن نقترب
بسرعة من نقطة القبول التي سيتغلب فيها
التفاؤل على مخاوف الناس نحو تلك
التقنيات."
وأضاف بيست: "لم تحسم نسبة
كبيرة من الناس موقفها من لمقاييس
الحيوية، وتقع المسؤولية على كل الشركات
التي تعمل في مجال تقنيات المقاييس
الحيوية والمؤسسات التي ترغب بتطبيقها في
الوصول إلى تلك المجموعات وتعريفها على
الميزات التي تقدمها المقاييس الحيوية
وتقنيات الهوية الإلكترونية."
